A Body of Work ....

"Peter Cimino"

Welcome To My Writing World

About Peter:

Peter is an established / professionally published writer and author. Schooled and trained in the art of writing through various writing courses at Roosevelt University in Schaumburg, IL during his journey to a bachelors degree in psychology, he further honed his prose skills by receiving two writing diplomas from the Long Ridge School of Writing (Breaking Into Print & Shaping your novel.

Often told he has a "unique voice", one of Peter's specialties is bringing the human element into every piece he writes from sports to mafia fiction. Talented, published writer and author Elyse Draper who has read just about all of Peter's work had this to say. "Peter has a genuine talent for creating real characters; not only characters that smack of reality....but ones, people develop and attachment to. Characters that remind readers of family (no matter the nationality), friends (past and present), and people who have made an impression but then were gone (fleeting glimpses of a smile when one was needed, or a desired tear when one was just out of reach). His talents are remarkable. It is only a matter of time before his work is on the New York Times BSL.

Peter completed his first fiction novel, an historical mafia-crime fiction drama set in the early 1930's now called "The Four Corners: A Sicilian Story", in January of 2011. He is current seeking literary agent representation, well entrenched in the querying process.

Peter's short story of the same genre and time period  called Lucky Says Hello, has been picked up for publication by MuseItUP Publishing. The expected availability date is October 2012. It will be available in all e-book formats. Stay tuned for more details.

For the past year Peter has been writing regularly for a new sports magazine called Sports Life. He has authored almost twenty feature stories, most of the interview based, co-written three others and edited a dozen more. To find digital issues of this magazine please go to www.sportslifemagazine.com, or contact Peter directly. He will be more than happy to send you copies.

Peter has a Young Adult Inspirational fiction story titled One Woman, One Island, One Choice published on an on-line magazine called Angie's Diary.

He has also been published 27 times on various content web sites, featuring pieces on sports, real life experiences, television, and the paranormal. Links to all of these stories are located throughout this web site.

A message from Peter:  "Writing is my freedom, my safe haven, my artistic expression and a direct reflection of who I am. It is my goal to leave a piece of me in every article and story I write. So, if you read between the lines of any of my pieces, you will find me! With that said, let there be no question, I am and forever will be a student of writing; ever learning, ever evolving and hopefully ever improving. I know what I know, want to know more, and will share with anyone who asks. But rest assured, I do not have all the answers. Any writer, no matter how successful, who thinks they do have all the answers is not only kidding themselves they are misleading their audience. During my journey I have realized a few key elements to getting paid for writing, and I am not talking about self-publishing. I am talking about some outside source paying you for your work, whether it be for a web site, blog, print magazine, web magazine, e-book publisher, a fiction novel publisher or nonfiction publisher. 1) Quality of Writing: This is the know-all, be all of writing. If you cannot write well, you will never get published. It is that simple. And just because you think you write well, it does not necessarily mean you write well enough for a publisher. 2) Integrity: A poor, unprofessional reputation can destroy a career before it even gets started, so be careful what you say (or write), how you say it and how you carry yourself. Remain above board at all costs. Always be respectful and treat others the way you want to be treated no matter how upset you are. 3) Network: In this day and age, networking (in a professional manner) is a must. It is those key connections that will get you where you want to go. You never know who you are going to meet and who will become a fan of yours. All it takes is that one special connection / friend / fan and you are off and running. So, good luck and happy writing!"

Fiction Novel

"BIG PETE":

In the summer of 1929, Charles Lucky Luciano, one of the most notorious gangsters in America, is beaten, stabbed, slashed and left for dead near New York Bay. Pete Carissimo, (known to his friends as Big Pete), an honest, Sicilian businessman and politician, from northeast New Jersey, discovers and recognizes Charlie's lifeless body. Ignoring the dangers of Luciano's mobster ties, Pete instinctively saves his fellow Sicilian. But, he realizes his own life could change forever, because Sicilian honor dictates Luciano will come calling to pay homage and express his gratitude in person. With a volatile mafia war raging in the streets of New York City, and not knowing enough about the gangster way of life, Pete reaches out to an old family friend, Vito Paradiso, who used to run the streets of Sicily. Vito mentors Pete about the secret code of conduct and rules of engagement that drive the world of Sicilian mobsters. Pete catches on quickly and masters the behaviors, mannerisms, body language and lingo of the mafia. During the inevitable face to face meeting with Luciano, Pete impresses the mafia leader. Lucky not only offers Pete his undying loyalty and friendship, he offers him a lucrative business opportunity. Pete accepts under the condition that their alliance remain a secret in order to protect his popularity, reputation and budding political career. He vows he is not and will never be a gangster.  The business venture quickly turns into a financial windfall for Pete. Soon after, out of nowhere, a dangerous enemy emerges from within Pete's circles, threatening his world and his life. Pete is pushed to the brink. With everything on the line, Pete finds himself at an agonizing crossroads. He must make the type of decision he never wanted to make, one that could turn him into what he vowed he would never become: a real gangster.

NOVEL PROGRESS UPDATE

Updated April 6, 2012: "Plan B"of my Literary Agent Hunt (with the help of my Query Letter Coach Brett Ellen Block), is half way done, and unfortunately still no luck. We have a few more agents to query, which I will do this weekend. Of course it will take weeks to find out how we do with these as agents just do not respond in any kind of a timely manner. The average is about two months. I connected with Brett Ellen today, and we do have a plan C and a Plan D, so I am not completely discouraged. This publishing game is certainly a test of wills! In the meantime my Godsend Editor, Joelle Walker and I continue to plow away perfecting the book. Nothing like a real pro helping you along. Remember, the new title is "The Four Corners: A Sicilian Story". Stay tuned folks, send your positive thoughts and prayers....hopefully good news is coming soon!

HOT NEWS

» 4/6/12– Still waiting for word from MuseItUp Publishing to start the editing process on LUCKY SAYS HELLO. The contracted availability date is October 2012, so I do not expect to hear anything for another few months. This is just another part of the "hurry up and wait" process of publishing...even with a short story e-book. The author is at the mercy of the publisher. All we can do is remain patient, maintain our professionalism and be ready and raring to go when they call. I have to say, with the slow progress of agent hunting for the book, this short story could very possibly pave the way for the novel...that is if I do not have an agent by then. Remember, this is the story that inspired my novel. I first wrote this back when I was taking one of my Long Ridge courses some six or seven years ago. I submitted it to a few places, with no takers and just decided to put it aside. Then three amazing things happened. First my sweet friend and partner in crime Kendra Taylor asked if I had any fiction shorts to offer up to a magazine she was interning for. This prompted me to pull it up for the first time in years! I quickly realized why no one picked it up. It needed WORK to say the least! Then the amazing Psychic Tiff (Tiffany Johnson) asked me if I had a "little nugget" story I was working on. Lucky came to mind...so I said yes. She said...ÿou might want to keep working on that."" And then finally, Joelle Walker connected with me on Linked In and asked if I had an old-school mafia short story to offer up to Muse! And the rest is history!! I signed the contract on Jnauary 8th and am now waiting instructions to begin the next edit phase. The predicted availability date is October. Stay tuned...I will be yelling LOUD and OFTEN when this baby becomes available. It will be in E-book formats only though.
As far as Sports Life Magazine goes, a new edition came out this past week. For me it only contains four stories that I wrote for the December digital version: Norm Duke, Paramus Little League, Joe Frazier and the New York Rangers. To find a hard copy go to www.sportslifemagazine.com and click on the subscription link. There is a location finder for the magazine. Just follow the instructions and find a local store near you. It is also available digitally on Nook. As far as what the future holds, all I can say is, I am available to write if the money is there.
Finally, stay tuned....I am working on some ideas of my own to stay connected to the sports world through writing.

Softball & Bowling News
»BOWLING: 4/6/12– All I can say is FINALLY!!!!! After struggling to the point of almost walking away from the sport for a long time, I truly believe I have found my way!! In late January, after hurting my shoulder pretty badly, I took a huge step back and started studying video clips of me from 2009 to 2010, the time period when I had some of my greatest successes. I watched over and over and over and over again...slowly but surely breaking down my technique and the changes that I made. I methodically began to piece together what I call "My Perfect Style". In other words, I kept some of the old stuff that still worked and implemented some of the new stuff that Diandra taught me. What I realized is, I should have stuck with the first few changes she implemented: 1. A looser higher back swing 2. Elbow locked (in other words stop muscling the ball) 3. Solid finish at the foul line with trail leg down and good follow through. These changes combined with a lot of old stuff, that did work did the trick. For the last month I have averaged over 200 highlighted by a 685 series on March 23rd. My average has jumped from 176 to 182. If I can get it over 185 by the end of the year that would be amazing.  In the end, I learned a valuable lesson, that being one person's perfect style is not necessarily another's. Use what works, and to improve make tweaks and changes within your comfort zone. I have two You Tube channels set up for highlights, one under my name Peter Cimino and the other under the team name. Search ArlDentalBowl on You Tube.
SOFTBALL: 4/6/12 - Season 10 is right around the corner, less than four weeks away! Opening day is Wednesday May 2nd. I ordered new team jerseys. I decided to go back to RED as our main color. That was our old color and we had more luck with it. I am hoping to rekindle that magic. The key for me is staying healthy! With my shoulder just about healed, with 3 nerves cauterized in my spine to kill that pain, and constant therapy on my arthritic knee (damn it sucks getting old), hopefully I can feel good again every game. The key for the team is playing together all the time. We have gone through too many lineups over the past few years and we just have not clicked. Being this is our big anniversary year, and it may very well be our last, I am hoping everyone BRINGS IT this year. As far as recaps go....I will write them as long as I am not bogged down with other writings.
